DTV TRANSITION UPDATES AVAILABLE ON NEW ONLINE COMMUNITY

Senior centers now have 24-hour access to updates about the national transition to DTV through a new online community set up by NCOA.

NCOA's Senior Centers Online for DTV Transition www.ncoa.org/dtv is up and running and offers free technical assistance and resources to senior center staff and volunteers.

With funding from the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), NCOA set up the online community as part of its work with other aging organizations in the Keeping Seniors Connected (KSC) Coalition.  Through this online community and a series of webinars and conference calls, NCOA will provide senior centers resources to assist program participants in managing the transition to DTV,

Developed by NCOA for senior centers nationwide to help their participants understand what they have to do to make sure their televisions work after Feb. 17, when the DTV transition goes into effect, the Senior Centers Online for DTV Transition community has:

  • a calendar with dates important to preparing for the transition;
  • a "file cabinet" where you can find DTV transition resources and share resources that have worked for you;
  • a list of links to Web sites with helpful DTV transition information;
  •  newsfeeds and constantly updated news stories about the transition to DTV;
  • video instructions on installing a converter box;
  • discussion forums on issues related to helping seniors with the transition.
  • member profiles to help members meet others who can be resources.

The webinar and conference call schedule will be posted this month, with content based on feedback by senior centers about what is most needed.  All the information and instructions about participating in the community is posted on www.ncoa.org/dtv.

Having received funding in December, the entire KSC coalition, led by n4a, is energetically moving forward to help senior centers nationwide.  All senior centers, including those receiving grant funding from coalition partners, are invited and encouraged to join NCOA's Senior Centers Online for DTV Transition community.
